Paschen Type Galvanometer
Made by the Cambridge and Paul Instrument Company.
Cylindrical reflecting vertical galvanometer in lacquered brass case upon Brass base with three legs for levelling, with slim vertical lacquered brass cylindrical tube on upper surface of cylinder, with circular window upon side of case revealing lower section of slim vertical tube. With three lacquered brass terminals and copper component upon upper surface of base. Usually made of black enamelled metal, this is an unusual model. Used to measure electrical the Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company was founded in 1881 by Horace Darwin, Charles Darwin's youngest son, to supply the laboratories of Cambridge University. It is a Paschen type--designed by the German spectroscopist Friedrich Paschen, based on the Thomson astatic galvanometer.
