Description
A pair of 19th century oil on panel paintings each depicting 'Rural Landscape' scenes. Both by 'Edward Williams' (1782 - 1855). Landscape painter principally in oils. He was the sun of an engraver and father of the 'Williams Family' of painters; his sons were Alfred Walter, Arthur (Gilbert), Edward Charles, George Augustus, Henry John (Boddington), and Sidney Richard (Percy). He studied under James Ward his uncle and exhibited at The Royal Academy from 1814 - 55, the British Institute, Suffolk Street and elsewhere. His titles at the RA were mostly views along the Thames and moonlight scenes. There are examples by him in Leeds Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Each set within a scroll pattern gilt frame. Each measures approx. 39cm x 49cm.
